Chix @Maleny lane

 —  —

Maleny Lane, 38 Maple St, , Maleny

A night to remember @Maleny Lane - with World Cuisine and live Blues, Soul & R & B from "Vix and the Slick Chix" 'The Chix' will be bringing their signature good time vibes to Maleny Lane on Friday 1st July, 6-9 pm. Tickets are $15 at the door. Hailing from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast - “Vix and the Slick Chix” are an energetic, 3 piece all-female band with a BIG sound and a double helping of Joy! With their tight grooves, dynamic vocals & upbeat style, the girls incorporate their own original music with high energy Blues and Soul classics to raise the spirits and fill the dance floor!! The Chix' onstage vibe is purely contagious, and steadily draws you in to bask in the Feel-good vibe that is, The 'Vix and the Slick Chix' show! The band is driven by the smokey powerhouse vocals of Vix, who The Courier Mail called an "accomplished Blues Aficionado, with a huge presence and a voice to match". Coupled with the sweet & melodic harmonies from Bass Player, Aleathea Monsour the girls create a vocal landscape that can melt the hardest of hearts! Joining Aleathea in setting the rhythmic grooves is Drummer, Nicole Perry, whose history in the music industry is too vast to list. From the outset, her years of gigging experience shine through and it's more than evident she has some serious percussive chops and can match it with the best of them. SOME FEEDBACK FROM THEIR FANS "Amazing energy - Zing Zing Zing - Vix and the gals are a blast - could watch them for hours."-Françoise Jewell ""Vix leaves no stone unturned with every song and every moment. Your ears will need to hang on tight, as this gutsy soulful lady curves around all the soulful bends, of the musical road that you would expect from such a big beautiful voice."- Jane Michele "Raw, genuine and honest...the way music should be…”.- Ken O'Flaherty "A Hot little Rhythm & Blues Band that plays it the way it should be...With a whole lotta Soul."- Dennis Dsax Williams

Winter Solstice Festival

Northey Street City Farm, Northey Street, Windsor

Winter Solstice marks the longest night of the year and is celebrated globally with diverse spiritual, cultural and seasonal practices. People around the earth have celebrated the Winter Solstice as an astronomical event marking the longest night of the year since ancient times. Northey Street City Farm have been celebrating the Winter Solstice for over 25 years with an annual festival of live music, dancing, talks and workshops for all ages, incredible food, a lantern parade and of course our beautiful bonfire. Our festival invites the Brisbane community to celebrate our relationship with Nature, to listen to First Nations knowledge, attend permaculture and sustainable living talks, appreciate local music and multicultural performances, and be a part of a ceremony that models setting intentions for the new year. We are very excited about this year's program with Malyangapa, Barkindji woman and hip-hop artist Baarka, as the head line act. Bruce Pascoe, Mary Graham, Ross Williams and Jacob Birch will also share their perspectives on food and agriculture within Indigenous knowledge systems. There will be a host of talks around the themes of Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share and loads of arts activities from Twirling Workshops, Lantern Making and Origami Stringing. Nana Magic, Tilly and Friends will take the under 8's on an unforgettable outback adventure, learning very important environmental lessons along the way. Our Solstice Ceremony, Lantern Parade and Bonfire will kick off after sunset, so the kids can join in the fun. Afterwards you may enjoy a tea ceremony. You can find the full program on our website here: https://www.nscf.org.au/winter-solstice-2022/ The Organic Markets will provide incredible organic food and stall holders who sell unique hand made ethical gifts and products to support sustainable lifestyles. As a not-for-profit organisation and charity, all the funds raised on the night go back into the Farm and support us to run permaculture education and events for free. We will have a raffle on the night, a food stall and a fund raising Jungle Bar so you can enjoy an evening ale with your organic meal. The festival will be zero waste again. Feel free to bring your own water bottle and keeper cup, plate or bowl, and cutlery. All food stalls will be equipped with crockery that will be washed by our fabulous dish washing crew. We are very appreciative to again be supported by the Brisbane City Council to bring your this incredible festival at affordable prices. Those who can not afford to attend can volunteer or contact the farm to be a recipient of a Pay-It-Forward ticket. Please consider buying a Pay-It-Forward ticket for someone who can not afford one.
