“ Vix is an accomplished Blues Aficionado, with a huge presence and a voice to match. ”
— The Courier Mail

About
Vix and the Slick Chix
Award winning Blues, Soul, R & B Band
Hailing from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, this all-female Blues band, delivers an onstage vibe that is purely contagious.
Their recipe for the Blues is One part Chicago, a few drops of Soul, a good dash of Gospel & a little pinch of Country. They serve up it up HOT, with a BIG sound & a Double helping of Joy!
With a passion for the genre that is clearly evident in every performance ‘The Chix’ mine every last ounce of emotion from some of the greatest blues tunes ever written.
Coupling that with some tasty original tunes that sit along side the classics with ease, is what makes this one Crowd-Pleasing, Foot-Stomping Blues band NOT to be missed!
The band is driven by the smokey powerhouse vocals of Vix, who The Courier Mail called an "accomplished Blues Aficionado, with a huge presence and a voice to match".
Coupled with the sweet & melodic harmonies from Bass Player, Aleathea Monsour, the girls create a vocal landscape that can melt the hardest of hearts!
Joining Aleathea in setting the rhythmic grooves & filling out the vocal harmonies is Drummer, Nicole Perry, whose history in the music industry is too vast to list. From the outset, her years of experience shine through and it's more than evident that she has some serious percussive chops and can match it with the best of them.
With their tight grooves, dynamic vocals & upbeat style, these three passionate Blues women bring an energy that’s guaranteed to raise the spirits and fill the dance floor!!
There are a lot of bands out there but there is no-one like Vix and the Slick Chix.

July 2025

A big shout out of gratitude to the wonderful organisers and dancers of Saturday nights Slow Soirée - A Brisbane slow dance exchange. This event is truly one of the highlights on our calendar and this year was bigger and better than ever. For a band that loves to play the blues and is committed to keeping the genre alive, this was a real tonic for the soul. The wonderful Blues Queens presentation that kicked off the Saturday night social, was an inspiring and uplifting way to get us all in the mood. The very lovely and knowledgeable Shob Nambiar walked us through the amazing era of the Blues Queens, from 1920-1930! These trailblazing, courageous and supremely talented Black women changed blues music and all popular music forever and it was a joy to listen to someone else celebrate and honour their musical, cultural and political legacy.
The incredible Blues dancers from both here and interstate were a joy to watch and an absolute delight to play for. Thank you for your generous energy was like a great big warm embrace.
Jodi Neal & @Joel Gilmore heart felt thanks and let's do it all again soon!!!

January 2025
Well that short break passed like a freight train bound for home…..And here we are into 2025.

Anyhoo, Rehearsal is now well under way and the show is shaping up to be the biggest and best yet….
Told with rollicking humour and stirring original music, this is the TRUE story the history books didn't want you to know about!

We hope to see you at one of these shows and if not…. we'll be back to play the blues for you in late April 2025.
December 2024
This year has just flown by……and as you can see we didn’t even find time for a news update!!
So, perhaps a recap of the year is in order.
Although we have never really regained the momentum of the pre-covid years, The Chix are still steadily gigging away. And given the current state of the Australian Music Industry that is something we don’t take for granted.
We are so grateful that we get to do what we do and still enjoy every single time we get together to play.
Following last years big T-Shirt Competition we of course delivered on our promise of a free House Concert for our winner. Early March, our lucky winner, Belinda Tee decided to share her prize, by organising a wonderful community get together for all her neighbours and friends in Cooloola Cove. They were a very warm and welcoming crew and a sweet chilled afternoon was enjoyed by all.
Probably the biggest milestone in 2024 was for our illustrious Vix who, at the end of August ran off to elope in Tasmania!! She returned a couple of weeks later a happily married woman and we joked perhaps too happy to sing the Blues…… But luckily for us, not the case.
We also managed to squeeze in a couple of Fund raising events for our Beloved Musical Theatre Production “ A Girls Guide to World War”. We haven’t quite hit our goal yet and are still raising much needed funds to take this amazing show on the road in 2025. As you can imagine it is a mammoth undertaking to tour a theatre show such as this….. if you have the funds & inclination to contribute you’d be helping us take this amazing story to a wider audience. You can find the donations link below.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible and gratefully received.
For those who haven't seen “A Girls Guide to World War” it is an original musical theatre production written by our Bass Player Aleathea Monsour (composer) and Katy Forde (book and lyrics).
This powerful, uplifting musical celebrates the untold stories of Australian women who served on the frontline during World War 1.
If you'd like to know more here is the link- https://www.musicaltheatreaustralia.com/a-girls-guide-to-world-war/
Stay tuned for tour dates, which will include Caloundra Events Centre & QPAC in Brisbane.
So….…'‘Slick Chix’ gigs may be a little sparse in the first part of 2025, as we absorb ourselves in rehearsal before we hit the road, but you can be sure we will be back and burning to play the Blues for you by the end of April.
We want to thank every one who came along to our shows this year, your smiling faces and kind words mean more to us than you can know. We’d also like to acknowledge and Thank the venues and organisations that continue to support live music in this treacherous climate.

October 2023
Well we have finally set the date for our T-Shirt draw!!!
THE VENUE
This special event will be held at the Palmwoods Bowls Club on Saturday December 16th.
The Bowls club is located in walking distance from the Palmwoods Train Station.
The club boasts 2 big dance floors, very well priced drinks and ‘Smoking Billys’ Bistro will be open and serving meals from 5:30pm. Check the menu link here. https://www.facebook.com/smokingbillys/menu/...
We have enlisted the talents of fellow Sunny Coast Band, ‘Palomino III’ to play the opening set and get ya all primed & loose!!
Palomino III blaze a trail along the fringes of traditional music.
The secret of this little powerhouse ferments somewhere between their spin on vintage rockabilly and Americana cowboy blues.
Stripped back and unbound by genre or era, their style has been likened to
“a hefty dose of moonshine with a twist of sarcastic melancholy..."
“The guitar riffs and upright bass jangle alongside standout vocals with an upbeat lyrical imagery..."
With impressive Rockabilly Roots festival performances across Australian states, including Australia’s iconic Greazefest, and internationally with their mothership group, at Belgium’s renowned Muddy Roots Festival, this is an act not to miss! https://www.facebook.com/palominoIII
I’m sure you already know what a great groove they lay down, and for those that haven’t had the privilege….I reckon ya best be wearin’ your dancing shoes.

We are holding our very own Blues Dancing event on Saturday 26th October.
We realised earlier this year that blues dancing really has not come to the coast, so we are bringing two amazing instructors from Brisbane's Premier Blues dancing school "Dance the Blues", to work their magic for us here on the Sunny coast.
Joel & Jody have been teaching Blues dancing for quite a few years now, and their experience shines through in their ability to impart their knowledge quickly and concisely to their students. Their relaxed and humorous demeanor just serves to make
their lessons all the more enjoyable.
This will be a ticketed event and will be held at The Palmwoods Bowls Club.
For the price of your entry you will receive a one hour Beginners Blues dance Class that will teach you all the fundamentals of Blues Dancing and will give you enough awesome new moves to dance the rest of the night away to "Vix & The Slick Chix". I promise you this will be a lot of fun and a night to remember. Get your tickets at https://www.trybooking.com/BEQTT
The tantalizing Fengs kitchen will be open and serving his usual array of delicious and very affordable Chinese Food & The Palmwood Bowls Club provides 2 massive dance floors & a full bar for when you inevitably you work up a thirst.
Tickets are available online for $20 /$15 concession or at the door for $25 / $20 concession.
So why not get a group together and come out for an enjoyable evening? You may make some new friends & will definitely leave with some new skills!

November 2018
The Chix have taken most of November off from gigging, to work on a project that is close to our Hearts.
As many of you know 'Vix & Slick Chix' met 20 years ago, playing in the 'Vulcana Womens Circus' band,
so we are delighted to be returning to the theatre as the core band for this brand new Australian Musical.
The show is called- " A Girl's Guide to World War " & the completely original score was written
by our super talented Bass Player, Aleathea Monsour.
It tells the astonishing true story of a courageous group of women who go to the frontline in World War 1.
Starring musical theatre legend Susie French as Dr Lilian Cooper, Australia's first female surgeon.
Join the adventure as Australia's fearless heroines find freedom, power and passion on the frontline.
Come along for an unforgettable night of live music, tears and laughter.
The Slick Chix will not only be providing the soundtrack for this incredible show, but some of us will also be making our acting debuts!!
August 2018
We are SO delighted to say we picked up our Phenomenal new 'Blackbird' TLA 1.4 P.A system from A.T Technologies in Brisbane today. What a beast it is!!! I fell in love the first time i heard one of these systems and knew right then i just to have one. I've heard and played through a lot of different systems over the years, but nothing even comes close to the clarity and fullness the Blackbird puts out. Many Thanks to Harry and the team at A.T Seventeen Mile Rocks.
June 2017-
Vix and the Slick Chix have moved........ We are now based on the beautiful Sunshine Coast and we couldn't be happier!!
